   collage...

...this music (demo #1) was the same HELM demo that the FATMAN played at the Computer Game Developers Conference's '98 Game Demo Marathon (Fatman's CD disk 1).

   Collage   60 seconds (1.07MB download)   mp3ver.gif (1609 bytes)

...for Windows or the Mac, this is undoubtedly the most hi-fidelity of either of the audio formats available on this page.  The tradeoff is that it is not play-on-demand technology.  Arguably worth the wait.  To download, right-click on the link and choose "Save_As..." (or "Save_Link_As...") from within your web browser to a location on your disk, and then double click on the collage.mp3 icon from within the Windows Explorer, or Macintosh Finder. Then run your mp3 media player and load and play the mp3. If you have a fast machine and hi band Internet connection, you may be able to simply left-click one time on the hyperlink itself.

For Lo Band connections:

Audition a  Real Audio, or ASF (Microsoft) audio stream

urban-esque...

...this music (demo #2) was included on Fatman's CD disk 2, as part of the GDC '99 Game Demo Marathon process.  It was piece of music I had written earlier for Accolade's basketball game with Charles Barkley, "Shut Up and Jam II".

techno / electronica...

...this music (demo #3) is a HELM demo that was taken from a fighting game that I was working on called "Cybernauts", but the game was pulled and never released to market.  So HELM still owns the copyright to it <g>.   The music is one of several that was written in the popular style of 'Electronica'.

orchestral...

...this music (demo #4) is a HELM demo that was written only to pitch our orchestral style skills, but in a digital audio DAW environment, utilizing Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO).  (Interested in checking out some of our older midi orchestral efforts? try this link).

sound effects movie reel...

...finally, we added a fun movie to watch and listen to.   Don't you think sfx are best auditioned in a sound-to-picture format? -- check it out!  The music has been stripped from it so that it is easier to focus on the sound effects and dialog.  It is taken from Accolade's space sim, "Deadlock I".   Lotsa fun alien wars and stuff.  The presentation is a collection of cinematics annexed into one movie.  The first part is the 'movie trailer' which one usually views before the actual game would begin, and the following flicks are 'wingame' scenarios which the user is rewarded with when s/he...er,...wins!  Which wingame scenario a user would be rewarded with would depend on which alien race identity they assumed.

under 5 min. (24 MB download) (Mpeg II video playable with Quicktime & WMA)

...Mpeg 2 format (can be played on the Mac with Quicktime or Windows PCs with Windows Media Plays and many other software DVD players) - There is simply no question that, out of each of the media formats available to you on this site, the best manner of audio and picture fidelity with the Sound Effects movie is to take the time to download the Mpeg version.  To play (and if the movie doesn't automatically start after you click on the link), you should probably first download the file to your computer (on a Windows PC, [RIGHT-CLICK] the link, or graphic above and choose [Save As...].  Following that, from within the Windows Explorer or Mac Quicktime or other appropriate media player you may load and play the file.  The trade-off, of course, is that this will hardly be a "play on demand" situation (but the wait time for the 24MB download is worth it).

For Lo Band connections:

Audition a  Real Audio, or ASF (Microsoft) audio stream

Bullet7.gif (140 bytes) SFX_movie.ASF   5 minutes (Windows Media Player, on-demand)

...To "play on demand", simply click on the ASF hyperlink - optimized for 56k or better modem speed.  This is a bit better fidelity then the real audio choice.

Bullet7.gif (140 bytes) SFX_movie.RM   5 minutes  PLAY - stream this clip 'on-demand'

...requires that you have a Real Audio player for either Macintosh or Windows OS - optimized for 56k modem speed.

AND FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...

HERE IS A MUSIC PAGE of ours that is not game orientated, but is certain to be a unique experience for the Lover of Progressive Music. And HERE IS A LINK TO THE SMOOTH JAZZ ENSEMBLE.

HERE is a link to a re-issue of a 70's rock album that I participated in. (I played electric bass on this album.)  But here are two songs from that album where I wrote the music and played bass and/or Mellotron on: Keep_Her.mp3 and  Revolution.mp3.

And, by way, ...the AT THE HELM web site is constantly evolving! Check back later for more samples!

In the meantime, check out this link for a great place to get some cool buys on musical instruments and audio tools:
